During the class of Computer Aided Manufacturing, the learning objectives are to create different designs using different software depending on the machine that you would be suing this is valuable to my future because I’m expanding my skills and learning new things which expand my ability to do other things. The project that I am submitting as an artifact for Computer Aided Manufacturing had to create a set of coasters with a personalized design which showed off some of my creativity. We also had to create a coaster holder that would be able to fit all six coasters. The learning objectives for this project was to learn how to use CorelDraw and how to use the laser cutter. Honestly when we first started doing this assignment and doing so much research I wasn’t interested. I thought I wasn’t going to like it and I wasn’t motivated at all. But as we started off with research I started finding things that I was interested in. For example I started finding things like my favorite flowers or my WPD logo. I was starting to feel excited about it. So excited that I started being ahead of the class and was the first one to try it out on the paper to see how my design came out. But before I even tried this out I had to see how the color looked. Like the graininess of the picture or if the picture was actually black and white so that the design would come out good. When I started trying different designs out I started feeling disappointed because they wouldn’t come out the way I wanted. Like the picture wasn’t completely black and white which made it look weird and didn't look good. But I just keep looking for design and doing research . At some point I found more than one design that I wanted to do. It was kind of hard to down select to one because once I found the ones I wanted to do all of them. Although I wasn’t able to do my flower or WPD logo due to the fact that they weren’t completely white and black so the machine wouldn’t read it I found another design that I thought would look really cool. That design was checkers, but this design was wavy, so it was wavy checkers. So then after I decided which design I wanted to do, I practiced it on paper. It came out really good the first time but I thought I would make it a bit bigger because after I did my cup measurements, my design was perfect for that mug but all mugs are different sizes so I made it bigger. After I fixed my design and made it bigger I tried doing it on paper again and it took about 3 times till I was satisfied with the results. But after I was satisfied I got to laser cut it on plastic. I chose to do it on a clear blue/green peace of plastic. I was able to run the machine myself with the help of my teacher. The coasters came out great, I loved them. Now came the hard part...trying to make the coaster holder. Now I say this was the hard part because you had to make a case where all six fit height and length wise, or else it didn’t meet the requirements. Making this holder was the hardest part because you had to perfect it, it had to be the same exact measurements so that the coasters would fit. It took me about 4 times to get the perfect measurements, it was always either a little too big or too small, once it was also not tall enough so some of the coasters would easily come out. After I got the correct measurements, I was done with this project. I do believe this taught me a lot especially patience because without it I wouldn't be able to do it. The Two School Wide Learning Outcomes I demonstrated with this Artifact are Self Directed learner who communicates effectively and Thinking critically and creatively. I have demonstrated creative thinking in the artifact by demonstrating that I was able to create a coaster with my own personalized design. This is important because I show others that I’m not only good at doing research but I’m also able to come up with my own personalized designs that interest me and meet requirements. This is also important to me because I was able to express myself through something and was able to connect both my art and technology skills in one. The Second SLO I demonstrated was self directed learner who communicates effectively by solving my own problems and doing my research. I didn’t only solve my own problems by searching it up but by getting the help of my teacher and other peers. Overall the the most important thing I have learned in this class this year was that it takes time to perfect something and to be patient because the process is long and it takes time. Another thing that I learned in this class was that failure is okay. Failure doesn’t mean to give up and this is what this class mainly taught me because even though I couldn't get things right the first time, I didn’t give up, and my teacher didn’t either and I want to thank him for that.
