During the class of Video Production 1, the learning objectives are to learn how to use a camera, take proper cinematic camera shots and learn what the different types of angles/shots are.
The project that I am submitting as an artifact for Video Production 1 had a story behind it, I created a video that kind of described my relationship with my friends which was supposed to be a film reel of work that I created that semester. This project was to how I improved at taking videos and learned more of different shots and also how to apply transitions and other effects to a video through Premiere Pro.
The project was creating a highlight reel of things i’ve recorded throughout the semester but I did it more of a story because I wasn't really happy with all the work I had done (although I will add some of them to this page).
This project was a little more complicated than the previous ones just because I had to add work that I really liked or was proud of. This project took a lot of my own time, I had to shoot outside of school and took all the time in school that was available to work with my classmates because I wasn’t able to shoot three different friendships in one shot. So I decided that I was going to take a camera home to shoot more of the things that happen when no acting or scripts are involved. I did a lot of recording during breaks and during class when I knew that it showed the real them and they were acting or posing because the camera was in front of them. I had so much footage but the limit was 3 minutes. My footage was over 12 hours. I had to cut down a lot. But I got the parts that I though described the person and showed how I felt towards them or the type of relationship we had through my perspective. After cutting so much down I believe I got the video to 3 minutes or a little less. While editing my footage I decided I was going to do it more of like a movie type so I decided to add a Play/Pause button that showed on the top left of the video. After deciding the little things and making sure the exposure was correct in every single one of my videos I then decided I was going to leave black screens/fades in between every short clip. I loved the way that looked. Once I was happy with that I had to look for a song or songs that went with the footage. I decided I was going to do 5 different songs specifically from lil peep because all my friends loved him and it was an artist that reminded me of them. I tried so many different songs and moved my clips everywhere there was so much work done throughout this part of the project, getting through one song took me like 5 hours. But after every song was put in and all my footage was edited I was so happy and proud of the outcome.
Patience was a HUGE part of this project. Especially choosing songs that go with the footage because the footage had to match the song or somewhat go with it and that was my mistake I would've picked out the song first so that I could record footage that goes with it but I did it the opposite so it was more complicated. Patience was something that was necessary throughout this process because you needed to have the patience to be able to work on one section for so long. This tells me that although I phased a difficult situation with the music and footage I was able to overcome that problem and solve it.
Video production 1 taught me a lot of creative thinking because this project was you. This project was something where you could kind of express yourself and show things off. In this project you had to think of ways that you can make your video not so boring and good enough to the way you liked it. You had to be creative with your work so everything would flow through the video and nothing looked so out of place. The second SLO I demonstrated in this project was communicating with my classmates because even though we didn't really script anything and didn’t plan anything out we had to communicate to make sure we were able to shoot that day especially because they were also working on projects themselves. I think I did well in demonstrating these two SLOs because of how good the video came out and the way each one of us managed our time and finished our work on time. I think these two SLOs don’t need any improvement at the moment. Maybe I could’ve applied another SLO.
Overall the the most important things I have learned in this class this year was create something you like because or else you’re going to have to redo everything again. I also learned how to manage my time more efficiently and how much communication can help while doing different tasks. This will benefit me in the future because it taught me to always work hard or else you won’t get anything out of it.
